There has been a lot of speculation about how Pep Guardiola sat through
the tie between Barcelona and Bayern. The former Azulgrana manager who
is 'culé' through and through, will become the next Bayern manager this
summer. MARCA learned that Guardiola had expected a very different first
leg semi-final match.
Before the game at the Allianz
Arena on Tuesday, there were even rumours that Jupp Heynckes might ask him for advice about how to prepare for the tie.
But Guardiola remained on the sidelines and out of the media spotlight, fully aware of the interest his opinions and analysis would attract. However, what he wasn't prepared for was the crushing result in Munich and even less the way events unfolded.
He watched the match on television and was able to see the full potential of the team he's taking on. A team that will be strengthened by the arrival of Mario Götze and, as Heynckes agent revealed on Wednesday, by Lewandowski too.
Pep Guardiola expected a much more even match and was surprised by the German steamroller which looks set to win the treble (it has the Bundesliga under its belt, is in the Cup Final and, barring miracles, also in the final of the Champions League).
If Bayern is successful, Guardiola will have extremely high standards to live up to, even before he takes up his new post in Germany.
